There is a lie that this industry sometimes tells. It is a well-intentioned lie, but it is still a lie. The lie goes like this: grind now, enjoy later. Build the business, then have the life.

The problem is that later has a way of not arriving. The business always needs more. The next goal is always just ahead. And by the time you look up, the kids are older and you missed it.

Before direct sales, I was on the road nine months a year in the oil fields. I told myself I was doing it for my family. Providing. That was my job.

I was providing financially and absent in every other way that matters. That is not a small trade-off. That is a bad deal that looks like a good one from the outside.

Direct sales was supposed to fix that. And in some ways it did. I was home more. Present more. But the grind mentality traveled with me. I just replaced the oil fields with the phone and the stage.

What the Loss of 2019 Showed Me

When everything fell apart in 2019, my family was still there. My wife. My kids. The people who had watched me build and who had given up time with me so I could build it. They were still there.

The business was gone. The money was gone. The organization I had poured years into was gone. And the people who loved me were still there.

That is when I understood what I had actually been building for. And I understood that I had been getting the priorities backwards.

What I Do Differently Now

I build with peace now. Peace is not a feeling. It is a standard. It means that what I am building has to be something my family can be proud of. Not just proud of the results. Proud of the integrity of how I got there.

It means that the business serves the life, not the other way around. The life is the point. Faith, family, freedom. Those are not things you earn after the grind. They are the reason for everything.

Success that costs you the people you built it for is not success. It is a very expensive trade-off that you will eventually regret. You do not have to make that trade. I am proof that you can build at a high level and keep your soul intact.
